Paul Mason's Animations

Improve your whitewater canoeing technique by examining these short animated sequences. Although they do find themselves in unusual circumstances the characters exhibit remarkably good paddling technique. These characters appear as flip pad animation in Thrill of the Paddle, a new book on whitewater canoeing, by Mark Scriver and myself.

The text accompanying each animation provides some specific points of form to watch for in each sequence.

The animations were digitally prepared by Peter Cook (email: [email protected]).

Good Paddling Strokes

Stroke

Both paddlers exhibit excellent torso rotation originating at their hips; we're talkin' a seriously efficient forward stroke.

Wave

A power stroke is as good as a brace. This paddler propels himself through the wave so he doesn't stall out and swamp. Scouting downstream of the wave would have been a good idea.
