Keeping
the kitchen area clean for preparing food and then
getting rid of scraps to reduce the risk of attracting
animals is always a concern on wilderness trips. One of
the easiest ways to do both of those things is to use a
tarp to form a kitchen area.
This
gives you a clean place to set things down, keeps all the
food related items in one designated place and lets
people know where the boundaries of the kitchen area are.
That improves the hygiene around the campsite which helps
food safety.
When
meal preparation is over, the food can can be consumed on
the tarp and after clean up is done, the tarp can be
taken away from the campsite to get rid of any food
scraps.
