Toilet
paper
The
most practical way to carry toilet paper on canoe trips
is to pack it in zip lock bags. Before you bundle it up,
remove the center cardboard core from the roll. When you
need to use the toilet paper, open the zip lock bag and
pull the paper from the center of the roll, not the
outside. This allows you to keep the roll inside the bag
where it can stay protected from the elements. It also
means the roll won't escape from you and unravel down the
hillside accidentally.
Dispose
of used toilet paper in a conscientious way. You might
consider bagging it and bringing it back for disposal,
you might consider burning it or you might consider
burying it in the active layer of soil. If you bury it,
wet it and use a stick to break it up before covering it
to speed the process of decomposition. Don't leave it on
top of the ground. If you plan to use the organic layer
of soil to dispose of toilet paper and human waste, that
should be done well away from campsites and water
sources.
